Building An All-Star Team- Pick Me!

Most of us can recall a time in our youth when we found ourselves either being selected for a team or tasked  with choosing teams. Pick me, pick me- remember??  Leaders must decide if they will start with friends or select only stars. Teaming within companies seems a larger focus than I recall in the past. Do individuals like teaming? It depends on the composition of the team.

Remember that phrase, many hand make light work? 

Do all teams have team players? No, there will always be individuals will to steal credit and step on others to get ahead, however today we are focusing on rewarding efficient teams. Efficient teams don't need words on a wall or an HR presentation to understand that "culture" means working together; they just click. I once had a client explain, "I miss my old team, sure we all had titles and job roles but we were willing to jump in and help each other complete our team's work and when needed we wore our individual hats." Crafting a successful team means the players need to be able to work together, blend talents, learn from each other and contain enough star power to place them in the winner's circle.


Choosing the best team is critical to success. Keeping a great team is equally critical to success. What can managers and owners do to keep talent and effective teams together? Recognize them!
