Big Things Come From Small Packages

It's been said that the best gifts often come in smaller package; the same is true in the workplace. If you've never worked in a smaller office environment you are missing something special. The dictionary defines teamwork as the combined action of a group of people, especially when effective and efficient. However, team takes on an entirely different meaning when transparency is the norm. In a large company there is a place to hide. In larger office setting if one looks busy, doesn't object and they are easily overlooked. Similarly in a larger company there is always someone driven to step over the person in a nearby cubicle or is sure their bosses job looks easier.

When you have a small open format one can experience every part of the workday:

  • We all get to know our clients personally- building relationships!
  • Getting to know our clients as a team makes a difference when suggesting marketing strategies.
  • The ability to see the impact of your work- your contribution to the organization's success
  • A voice that matters- no layers of management to be heard
  • We know when a co worker is having a bad day; needing a kind word or taking a break to walk or grab a coffee
  • We know what our team members are doing with their time
  • We meet with suppliers together to learn new operational options, trends and products
  • Sometimes friends or family stop by to say Hi
  • Numerous meetings, a pounds of paper are not necessary to implement a change- a huddle works
  • Lunch time is sometimes fluid depending on the tasks at hand
  • We jump into client meetings or tag team as the task requires- sales, graphics, order management
  • We work around each other's schedules to make sure time off works when folks need it
  • Is easy to ask- hey, I'm caught up, how can I help right now?
It's a gift to have a great team, making work fun and a place worth coming to each day!
